A great initiative is taking place in La Herradura. Cigarette filters on the beach are a great problem. Apart from the obvious pollution it is also dangerous for many sea creatures and birds who mistake them for food. There was even a case in the north of Spain where a couple had bought a pulpo in the supermarket and when they cut it open at home there was a cigarette filter inside! But did you know that filters thrown in the streets often also end up in the water? When the streets are cleaned with water or in winter time when it rains they end up in the drains and can therefore end up in the sea. So many applaud this great initiative by local bar/restaurant La Baena. Hopefully this initiative will be followed by others as it is a great way to bring awareness to the importance of having a clean and unpolluted beach.
