I have called my series of flamenco dancers ‘flamenco with a twist’ because they are usually not dancing, but staring into the distance. The Flamenco is a Spanish dance and folk music, originally from the south of Spain, the province of Andalusia. Flamenco consists of singing, guitar music, dance and hand clapping. It was first mentioned in 1774. The flamenco is often associated with so-called ‘Gitanos’, Romani’s from Spain, as a fairly large part of flamenco artists come from this ethnic group.
I have created a series of flamenco paintings which I call ‘flamenco with a twist’ as the dancers in these paintings are usually not dancing. They tell a story of mystery, passion and sensuality.
